Dr. LaTrenta uses a procedure called fat grafting, or fat transfer, to improve your body’s contour using your own fat.
The fat grafting procedure transfers fat from areas in which you have excess fat, such as the outer thighs, and injects it into areas that may be lacking in volume, such as your breasts.
Fat grafting is particularly useful in breast procedures, such as for adding volume to the cleavage.
The procedure is safe, long-lasting, and produces natural-looking results.
First, you and Dr. LaTrenta will select a site for fat removal.
He will then inject a local anesthetic and create a small incision for fat removal. A cannula will be used to carefully extract fat (liposuction).
Once enough fat is collected, it will be processed in a centrifuge to prepare the fat cells for injection.
The area to be augmented will be prepared. Dr. LaTrenta will then use a needle or cannula to inject fat into the site. Once a sufficient amount of fat has been transferred, he will close the incision with a stitch.
The length of the procedure will vary depending on several factors, including the number of extraction sites and the amount of fat being transferred.
You may wish to consider a fat grafting procedure if you have:
- body contour irregularities,
- bodily depressions,
- areas that are lacking in volume, and/or
- severe scarring.
You must have body areas with sufficient fat that can be transferred.
You must be in good health and without circulation problems.
After the procedure, you will be taken to the recovery room for a short period of monitoring and observation. Most patients can go home fairly soon.
The procedure area may feel sore for a day or two, but you should be able to perform normal activity within 24 hours. Dr. LaTrenta usually recommends restricting exercise or heavy lifting for a week, depending upon the extent of the surgery.
