Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, and a variety of factors can cause changes to the appearance of a woman’s breasts over time.
A “breast lift” (mastopexy surgery) raises and firms the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to restore a youthful shape and contour.
Enlarged areolas may also be reduced with this procedure.
This procedure lifts and reshapes sagging breasts by removing excess skin through small circular incisions which reduce the excessive areola, as well as vertical incisions which cone the breasts and literally lift it upward off the chest wall and re-shape them.
Most often, an inframammary crease anchoring incision is added for support.
Occasionally, sutures are placed beneath the skin to reposition the breast tissue and the nipples.
This procedure is usually performed in the office under intravenous sedation or light general anesthesia.
You may wish to consider a breast list if you have:
- Breasts that are pendulous¹, but of satisfactory size.
- Breasts that lack substance or firmness.
- Nipples and areolas that point downward, especially if they are positioned below the breast crease.
- Pregnancy and nursing have left you with stretched skin and less volume in your breasts.
- You are at least 6 months out from pregnancy.
- You are not planning additional pregnancies.
- You are within 20 lbs of your ideal body weight.
IT IS MANDATORY THAT PATIENTS BE NON-SMOKERS.
¹Breast that are pendulous and small may also require an enlargement with an implant, as well as a breast lift.
The results of your breast lift surgery are immediately visible.
You should be back at work in a week.
Exercise can be resumed after 3 weeks and sports after 4-6 weeks.
Scarring usually takes anywhere from six months to one year to heal.
You will be required to wear a strong surgical support brassiere for 2-3 months.
