Breast Re-Do General Information

Revisional breast surgery is used to correct changes that may have occurred subsequent to past breast implant surgery. IT IS MANDATORY THAT PATIENTS BE NON-SMOKERS.

Many women seek secondary breast enhancement after implant-related or natural changes in the breast tissue such as after childbirth and breast-feeding.

Common reasons for seeking revisional breast surgery are:

  • Implant Deflation,
  • A desire to change implant (size or type),
  • Capsular Contracture,
  • Implant Malposition,
  • Double-Bubble Deformity, and
  • Combination Issues.

It is best to have as much information as possible about your previous implant before coming in for a consultation regarding revisional surgery.

Breast Re-Do - The Procedure

Surgery can be performed in the office under general anesthesia.

An incision is usually made under the breast to provide optimal access for removal of the previous implant.

The pocket of the previous implant is usually removed and a new pocket is created under the muscle.

After closing, an internal breast lift is often necessary. In may cases, a breast lift is needed as well.

The breast tissue, skin, nipple/areola and implant are thereby rearranged to meet your needs and desires.

Breast Re-Do Best Candidate

You may wish to consider a breast re-do if:

  • You have had a previous breast implant placed which needs to be replaced, or
  • You feel your previous implant surgery no longer meets your satisfaction and that you are no longer satisfied with your breast shape and/or size.

It is best to have as much information as possible about your previous implant before coming in for a consultation regarding revisional surgery.

Breast Re-Do Recovery Time

After secondary breast surgery, it is often possible to return to work within just a few days or a weeks, depending on your job.

Vigorous activities and exercises, especially those involving arm movement, may be restricted for two to three weeks. Patients must wear a strong surgical support brassiere for 2 to 3 months after surgery.
